The town of Westford seeks a dedicated Veterans Service Officer to support military veterans and their families in accessing local, state and federal benefits. This full-time position (37.5 hours/week) reports to the Assistant Town Manager and offers a salary of $65,718 – $72,407, dependent on qualifications and experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist veterans and their families with benefits related to employment, education, medical care, and burial services.
  • Determine eligibility for benefits through interviews and investigations.
  • Prepare and follow up on applications and claims.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of veterans’ graves and memorials.
  • Organize Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and 9/11 ceremonies.
  • Develop outreach initiatives and coordinate with town departments.
  • Manage the department budget and supervise staff.

Qualifications:

  • Honorably discharged U.S. Veteran.
  • Completion of Massachusetts Veterans’ Services training within six months.
  • VA accreditation within one year.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media.
  • Strong knowledge of veterans’ benefits laws and excellent interpersonal skills.
