The town of Rockland seeks a full-time Truck Driver–Laborer (Class II) to join the Highway department. This position plays a key role in maintaining safe and functional roadways, supporting infrastructure projects, and assisting with the daily operations of the department.
Duties include operating dump trucks and related equipment, plowing and sanding during winter storms, performing road construction and maintenance (paving, patching, manhole/basin repair), installing and repairing road signs, and carrying out general labor tasks such as shoveling, sweeping, raking, and debris removal.
Qualifications: A valid Massachusetts Class B driver’s license with airbrakes is required. Applicants should have general knowledge of road construction, repair, and maintenance practices, and the ability to perform physical outdoor work in varying weather conditions. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Compensation and Benefits: Starting pay is $26.21/hour with excellent benefits, including health insurance through Blue Cross Blue Shield with a 79% Town contribution, retirement benefits, and union representation under AFSCME Council 93.
