Position: Treasurer/Collector
Location: Treasurer/Collector’s Office, Annex Building, 20 Centre St., Middleborough
Status: Full-time
Hours: 40 hours per week (Monday through Friday)
Wages: $110,000 +/- annually – Salary commensurate with experience
The Town of Middleborough is seeking qualified applicants to serve as our Treasurer/Collector. The Treasurer/Collector is appointed by the Select Board and Town Manager and works under the administrative direction of the Director of Finance to perform administrative and supervisory duties and has full charge and responsibility for the operation and management of the office of the Treasurer/Collector.
The Treasurer/Collector assists with managing the town’s financial operations including the functions of overseeing revenue/collection services, debt service, bond issuances, tax title and foreclosure programs, tax and utility billing and collection, payroll processing and employee benefits.
The Treasurer/Collector acts as department head and oversees seven employees. Payroll is processed using Harpers Payroll Services.
Minimum qualifications include bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, business management or related field; five years of experience in a municipal finance position and an additional two years of supervisory experience as a Treasurer Collector; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Massachusetts certification as a Treasurer/Collector is desired. The successful candidate must have the ability to become bonded.
Experience using MUNIS, Softright, or other financial software is required. Qualified candidates must demonstrate experience and knowledge of local government processes, personnel management, tax billing and collection procedures, payroll procedures, and investment and debt management. Middleborough’s fiscal year 2026 operating budget totals approximately $110,708,199.
Applicants must be proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word, able to identify problems and devise solutions, and work and communicate well with people having diverse financial backgrounds.
Systems Used: Microsoft Office, MUNIS, SoftRight, Harper’s Payroll Services, and DOR Gateway.
