Great Barrington (7,200 pop. year-round), is seeking a seasoned manager with exceptional leadership, financial, and communication skills interested in taking on challenging opportunities in a beautiful setting to serve as Town Manager. The Manager will face challenges related to aging infrastructure, possible acquisition of one of the privately owned water districts, an increasing number of costly priorities, and addressing workforce housing needs. Great Barrington is a beautiful and vibrant community in Berkshire County with an active downtown, beautiful landscapes, and abundant open space. There are a significant number of second homes and vacation homes in town and the population more than doubles during busy summer and autumn months. Great Barrington has an Open Town Meeting form of government with a Town Manager and five-member Selectboard. It has an AAA rating, and FY25 budget of $45 million. Preferred candidates will have an advanced degree, preferably in public administration or a similar discipline. Candidates must have at least five years of full-time paid experience in a supervisory administrative position in municipal government; preferred candidates will have strong experience as a Town Manager/Administrator or Assistant Town Manager/ Administrator. Candidates must be skilled in financial management, capital planning, and budgeting and be collaborative, forward-thinking, and embrace engaging with community groups and other stakeholders.
Annual salary: The Town Manager’s current annual salary is $162K. Salary for the successful candidate is negotiable, commensurate with qualifications and experience. EOE.
