The town of Templeton is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Town Accountant to join our municipal leadership team. This role is responsible for maintaining all financial records, ensuring compliance with Massachusetts General Laws, preparing financial reports, and overseeing all accounting operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and monitor financial records, appropriations, and contracts
  • Approve bills and vouchers before payment by the Treasurer
  • Prepare and manage budgets, reports, and audits
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, GASB, UMAS, and MGL Ch. 41 §§ 50–55

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Five to seven years of accounting experience, preferably municipal
  • Knowledge of Massachusetts municipal finance laws
  • CPA or Certified Governmental Accountant (CGA) preferred
  • VADAR software and MMAAA certification a plus
  • Must obtain MMAAA certification within five years if not currently held

Compensation:

  • Salary commensurate with experience
