Woburn, Mass. (40,876 pop.), a thriving New England city with industrial roots, is seeking qualified applicants to serve as Sustainability Coordinator/Grant Writer. Woburn has created the position of Sustainability Coordinator/Grant Writer to develop and promote public awareness of, and engagement in, climate vulnerability and sustainability issues across all segments of the community. The city’s goal is to become an equitable, resilient, and zero waste community. The successful candidate will create an office dedicated to working with the Mayor and the city’s management team to advance the city’s sustainability goals and will take a lead role in researching and pursuing grant opportunities. This position will report to the Planning Director, who reports directly to the Mayor. Candidates should be skilled and experienced professionals with strong communications skills who are knowledgeable in strategies for sustainability planning, climate change, environmental management, energy efficiency, renewable energy, and environmental sustainability principles. Must be skilled at grant writing and management and be highly organized. Preferred candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, energy or environmental policy, or other related field, plus a minimum of two years of experience in sustainability planning, energy efficiency, and/or renewable energy market or any equivalent combination of education and experience, and experience working with citizen committees.
