The town of Sandwich, Mass., is seeking a 40-hour-per-week Social Worker. The Social Worker works collaboratively with the Sandwich Police Department to respond to selected law enforcement calls for service providing crisis intervention, psychological first aid, and mediation skills. This position will collaborate not only with the Sandwich Police Department, but with other town departments, including schools. The position works closely with the Police Department’s Community Services Officer, the court system and local healthcare facilities to provide services and care for those suffering from mental health and substance abuse disorders.
Essential functions include, but are not limited to, participating in police ride-alongs to provide onsite assistance, working with partner agencies to formulate plans for appropriate care for those in psychiatric crisis, and assisting officers in evaluating and administering Section 12(a) involuntary psychiatric holds.
Applicants must possess a master’s degree in social work, or equivalent degree, and hold a LICSW, or LMHC licensure. LCSW candidates will be considered, under the supervision of a LICSW (provided by the department). Must have a valid Massachusetts driver’s license and the ability obtain security clearance for access to the Department of Criminal Justice Information Services (DCJIS) and Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) software.
Applicants must have extensive knowledge and experience working with those with mental health and substance abuse disorders. They must also be skilled in conflict resolution and crisis intervention. The ability to understand and operate within a law enforcement environment and maintain a relationship with police officers and members of the community is a must.
Salary range is $75,000-$85,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience with an excellent benefits package. The position mainly works M-F work schedule, with occasional night and weekend work.
