The city of Lowell is seeking candidates for the position of Sealer of Weights and Measures in the Inspectional Services department. The position reports to the Commissioner of Inspectional Services and designated personnel and is responsible to enforce laws, regulations, and ordinances relating to the accuracy of weighing, measuring, and counting of merchandise officered for public sale. Supervises and/or participates in adjusting, sealing, testing, and condemning, any weighing or measuring devices involved with public sale such as commercial scales, liquid and dry capacity measures, linear, area, fabric, and cordage measuring devices and commercial meters; inspects prepared food and merchandise and its labels; calibrates vehicle tank trucks; Knowledge of MGL Ch. 98, National Bureau of Standards Handbook 44 and 133: working knowledge of the appropriate inspection and testing procedures for determining the accurateness of weights and measuring devices; working knowledge of the proper methods of fuel delivery; Valid driver’s license required. Must become certified as a Sealer of Weights and Measures Inspector through the Division of Standards within one year. Salary range: $31.2849 (min) to $35.1163 (max) per hour; 35 hrs/wk.
