The town of Dighton is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Principal Assessor. Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree and/or five years of real and personal property appraisal experience and have completed Massachusetts Association of Assessing Officers (MAAO) Courses 101 and 200 to be considered for employment. MAAO designation may be required within three years. Licensed realtor in MA a plus.

Duties include oversight of the classification of all real and personal property on an annual basis and the administration and management of MA DOR Re-Certifications every five years.

Principal Assessor is responsible for determining the total value of all real and personal property within the town on an annual basis and committing real estate, personal property, auto and boat excise amounts to the Tax Collector in order to produce tax bills for the town. Determines the amount of the Overlay Account needed for each fiscal year. Supervises the training and directing appraisal and administrative staff and professional contract employees for revaluations, large scope appraisals and legal defense at the Appellate Tax Board.

Applicant should have a comprehensive knowledge of up-to-date appraisal principles and practices, including all applicable Massachusetts General Laws and familiarity with Massachusetts General Laws relating to municipal finance; knowledge of all related regulations and requirements promulgated by the Massachusetts Department of Revenue regarding assessment and tax administration and a working knowledge of CAMA appraisal system software; knowledge of accounting principles, office practices and procedures and required computer applications such as VADAR and Excel.
