Principal Assessor

The town of Manchester-by-the-Sea seeks a qualified professional to serve as Principal Assessor. This position is responsible for managing all assessing operations, ensuring accurate and equitable property valuations, and overseeing tax administration, GIS, and related systems.

Key responsibilities include property appraisal, tax rate setting, new growth, classification hearings, PILOT administration, Appellate Tax Board representation, and oversight of GIS, permitting software, and Nearmap. The position also supports Community Preservation Act (CPA) administration and supervises up to two employees and inspectors.

The Principal Assessor works under the policy direction of the Board of Assessors and in coordination with the Town Administrator and Finance Director.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and five years of assessing or appraisal experience; Massachusetts Accredited Assessor (MAA) certification required.

Salary: $100,000 – $110,000 DOQE
