The town of Essex Department of Public Works Water Department seeks a qualified applicant to fill the position of Plant/Water systems Operator I. The position requires the ability to perform a wide range of duties including, but not limited to, manual labor on the distribution system and to carry out operational duties in a complex water treatment plant. Applicant will be required to work in all DPW related activities, primarily sewer, when needed. The position requires work on a rotating shift that includes weekends and holidays. Applicants currently holding a T2/D1 Massachusetts Water license are preferred. All prospective applicants of this position must acquire aforementioned licenses within one year of hiring date. Preferably, the applicant should have a minimum of a high school diploma, with a science related background, some computer skills and some construction experience.
