The city of Watertown seeks qualified applicants for the position of Payroll Specialist in the Auditing department. Under the direction of the City Auditor, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for the administrative clerical duties pertaining to the bi-weekly payroll functions and processing for all city employees. The Payroll Specialist also maintains an accurate database for the processing of payroll including entering new employee information, updating employees’ changes, maintaining voluntary deductions, and general maintenance of the MUNIS database. Candidates must possess excellent attention to detail, have strong interpersonal and customer service skills, and be highly organized.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associate’s degree and a minimum of four years of professional experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Understanding of payroll functions as well as knowledge of current federal and state regulations related to payroll, labor, and employment tax laws. Must have experience with MUNIS software or MUNIS payroll module.
HOURS: The work week is 37.5 hours (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday: 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Tuesdays: 8:30 a.m. – 7 p.m.; Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.).
SALARY and BENEFITS: This is a union position with a starting salary of $70,951 annually. Hiring above Step 1 is dependent on qualifications and experience.
