The Passport Acceptance Agent-Office Assistant primary function will be reviewing passport applications for completeness, affirmation of truthfulness, presence of required entries, signature and photographs, and inclusion of application fees in the appropriate amounts. Examines evidence of citizenship submitted with applications to determine and judge the authenticity and adequacy in relation to the requirements of the law, regulation and procedure for the issuance of passports and to confirm the facts as recorded on the application.

Qualifications include:
High school diploma plus a minimum of three years of related increased responsible work in a similar administrative assistant position preferably in municipal government or customer service; or the equivalent combination of education, experience and training. College degree preferred.

Knowledge of general office practices, procedures and terminology; complete knowledge of the use of office automation applications and equipment, business arithmetic, American business English and spelling; basic knowledge of bookkeeping techniques; good knowledge of record keeping methods; a general knowledge of local government and its operations is helpful; familiarity with pertinent state and local laws and issues relating to municipal operations and City Council preferred.

This is a Teamsters Local 170 Professional/Administrative/Technical Union (Grade C) with a work schedule of 35 hours per week, Monday through Wednesday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to noon.

There will be times during elections that overtime will be mandatory. The hourly rate starts at $28.99 or higher based on current union status.
