The town of Avon seeks qualified candidates for the part-time, AFSCME union position of Public Safety Dispatcher to receive and process emergency and non-emergency signals and calls for service. Dispatch police, fire, EMS and other emergency units and personnel as needed.  Monitor and operate emergency signaling, radio, computer, telephone, alarm, and other specialized equipment in support of public safety communications and dispatch functions.

Requirements include a high school diploma/GED, college degree desirable. Must achieve within the first three months of employment, or as soon as reasonable, based upon the availability of courses; CPR certification, CJIS operator certification and EMD certification. Work schedule includes a rotating shift between the hours of 12 a.m. – 8 a.m., however hours /shifts are subject to change based upon needs of the agency. May be required to work rotating or fixed shifts on nights, holidays, and weekends. 

 This is an AFSCME union position with part-time benefits involving 20 hours per week based upon bi-weekly average. The starting hourly rate is $22 not including differentials for nights, weekends and holidays.

The prospective employee must successfully complete a CORI (Criminal Offender Records Inquiry) and a physical examination, including a drug test. The town reserves the right to run additional CORI checks as allowed under Massachusetts General Law. Prospective employee must possess a valid driver’s license.
