Melrose Public Works seeks an experienced and motivated leader to oversee daily operations of 8 divisions: water, sewer, highway, sanitation, parks, forestry, cemetery, and fleet. This position also leads all snow and ice operations across city and schools.
We are looking for a hands-on manager who thrives in a fast-paced, service-driven environment. You will set priorities, ensure accountability, and foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Success in this role requires balancing people management with operational expertise—coordinating staff, contractors, and resources to keep the city running smoothly.
The ideal candidate has eight to 10 years of progressive public works experience, including at least three years in a supervisory role, preferably in a union environment. Knowledge of municipal operations, budgeting, procurement, construction, and OSHA standards is essential. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills are a must. A valid driver’s license, satisfactory background check, OSHA-10 are required; OSHA-30 is preferred.
