A Mechanic position is available in the Bedford Public Works Mechanical Department for a mature person to perform various mechanical duties including repairing equipment of substantial complexity. The individual shall provide high quality work effort as necessary to complete all tasks in both repairs and preventive maintenance. Maintaining written and/or electronic records of work performed will be a requirement of the position.

The candidate should have good mechanical skills and demonstrated ability to plan, carry out, and, if necessary, problem solve work assignments.

Qualifications include a high school diploma, a valid Massachusetts Class B Commercial Driving License, a 2A/1C Hydraulic Hoisting License, and a proven good driving record as evidenced by a Registry of Motor Vehicles report. The position includes a five day, 40 hour work week in addition to mandated overtime during emergencies or special work details such as snowstorms and urgent repairs. Experience in public safety vehicle inspection and maintenance, including NFPA non-aerial and aerial inspection and maintenance, preferred. Experience in all mechanical areas including computer diagnostic, diesel and heavy equipment is preferred with welding experience highly desirable.
