Local Building Inspector – Part-Time

The town of Bridgewater is seeking a professional, experienced, Local Building Inspector to provide code inspections of buildings under construction to monitor compliance with building code and bylaws. Also inspects safety conditions of existing buildings to identify any potential hazards, reviews plans, maintains associated logs and records, and investigates complaints of alleged zoning violations. Must have the ability to interpret and enforce regulations firmly and impartially, to deal appropriately with public and building community, and to read blueprints is required.
Qualified applicants must have a high school diploma and five years of progressively responsible experience in building construction or design in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws or associates’ degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preference will be given to applicants with a Certificate of Local Inspector. Experience with Microsoft Office 365 and a valid driver’s license is required.
Applicant must have a Construction Supervisors license and valid driver’s license. Position requires 18 – 24 hours per week, and work schedule will be determined by the Building Inspector/Zoning Enforcement Officer.
This position is a member of the United Steelworkers’ union and has a full benefits package in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement. The position is non-exempt and is classified at Grade 10 in the Classification Schedule with the FY23 salary range of: $29.51 – $38.72.
