The town of Andover is looking for a Local Building Inspector to join the Building Division team. The Division ensures the health, safety, and welfare of the town’s 36,000 residents and many visitors through the enforcement of the state and local laws, bylaws and regulations. In 2020, the Andover Building Division issued 2,045 building permits.

Under the Direction of the Inspector of Buildings, the Local Building Inspector performs skilled inspectional work of a technical nature which requires compliance with state and local building codes, zoning codes, bylaws and related regulations.

Successful candidates will have at least five years’ experience in the supervision of building construction/design or an associate’s degree in a field related to building construction/design, or any equivalent combination of education and experience, as well as a general knowledge of the accepted requirements for building construction, fire prevention, light, ventilation, heating and air conditioning, and safe egress. Must be certified by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts State Bureau of Building Regulations and Standards as a Local Building Inspector, or able to obtain certification within 12 months, and have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and personal vehicle. 36.25 hours per week.

Salary range $66-84K, commensurate with experience, and excellent benefits package.
