The town of Holliston (population 15,000) is seeking applicants for the full time position of Library Director. This is a leadership position that will direct and manage all operations under policy direction of a supportive 6-member Library Board of Trustees and administrative direction of the Town Manager.
The Library Director should have proven experience as a leader, be resourceful, energetic and diplomatic with the ability to work collaboratively with an experienced library staff, trustees, Friends, volunteers and town officials. The Director also ensures a safe and welcoming environment for all community members.
The Library Director will oversee a staff of three full-time and 13 part-time employees, a collection of 70,000 volumes, a 9,000 square foot facility and a budget of $630,908. Some nights and weekends are required. Please click here to see the job description on the town website for further detail.
The building is a Carnegie built in 1904 with a 1985 addition. In May 2024, the town authorized a grant application to the MPLCP for a feasibility/design study to look at the future of the existing building or options for a new facility. This grant process is currently ongoing. Holliston is a suburban community that maintains much of its small town atmosphere and the library enjoys strong community support. The successful candidate will have a master’s degree in library science from an ALA. accredited institution and certification from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. The candidate will have five years of administrative and supervisory library experience at a progressively responsible level as well as training in public administration, budgeting and personnel management. Experience with building maintenance and the ability to coordinate with the Facilities Director is required. The successful candidate will be a creative leader who possesses broad experience in managing traditional and evolving library services.
Pursuant to the town’s Consolidated Personnel ByLaws, this position is classified as Grade M2, and the salary range is $83,514 -$105,219, commensurate with experience.
