The city of Peabody is seeking a dependable and motivated individual to join its Facilities Department as a Junior Building Custodian/Floating Building Custodian assigned to the Peabody Public Schools – Higgins.

This full-time position is responsible for helping maintain a safe, clean, attractive, and efficient school environment for students and employees. Duties include general custodial work, cleaning and disinfecting classrooms and common areas, minor building maintenance and repairs, snow removal and grounds upkeep, moving furniture and equipment, and other related duties as assigned.

Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, 3 p.m. – 11 p.m.
Starting Rate: $29.71 per hour, plus applicable differential
Union: AFSCME Local 364
Civil Service: Official Service, subject to Civil Service testing procedures as they occur

Qualified applicants should have a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of related custodial or maintenance experience in a multi-floor business or school environment. A valid Massachusetts driver’s license is required. Candidates should have general knowledge of building maintenance and upkeep, the ability to perform minor repairs, basic technology and email skills, and the physical ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

The successful candidate must complete all required pre-employment screening, including a physical examination and Massachusetts criminal background check. The position may also require overtime, emergency, and stand-by service.
