The town of Avon is seeking its first Manager of Information Technology to manage the information technology system for the town’s computer systems. The Manager of Information Technology is responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing the municipality’s technology systems, infrastructure, and support services. This position manages the daily operations of the municipal computer systems, including networks, servers, cybersecurity, user support, and public safety technology infrastructure. The role ensures reliable, secure, and efficient technology services that support municipal departments, emergency communications, law enforcement, fire services, and other critical operations.

Oversee the administration, maintenance, and performance of municipal technology systems, including servers, storage, workstations, networks, and cloud-based platforms. Manage and support mission-critical public safety systems, including records management systems, mobile data systems, emergency communications interfaces, radio-supporting technologies, and related infrastructure. Develop, implement, and monitor cybersecurity policies, controls, incident response procedures, and business continuity measures. Assess organizational technology needs, recommend system improvements, develop IT roadmaps, and align technology initiatives with municipal goals requirements. Lead IT projects from planning through implementation, including system upgrades, infrastructure modernization, software deployments, and vendor coordination.

Manage relationships with software providers, consultants, hardware vendors, and service contractors; oversee procurement and service-level performance. Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and municipal policies related to information technology, records retention, data security, and public sector operations. Ensure technical support for municipal departments and maintain high service availability for core systems. Prepare and manage the IT budget, including forecasting, capital planning, licensing, maintenance agreements, and technology replacement schedules.

Requirements include a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with concentrations in information technology management, computer science, information systems, or a similar field. A minimum of five years of municipal experience with exposure to all services areas including three years in a responsible administrative position with ability to create budgets and manage computer networks; ability to speak and write effectively and clearly.
