The city of Newburyport is seeking a Human Resources Director to provide quality customer service to city employees and city retirees for all human resources needs in the areas of recruitment, hiring, benefits, compensation, classification, labor relations, employee relations, worker’s compensation, and unemployment. The Human Resources Director coordinates all personnel actions, for approximately 235 Full‐time employees and 150 part‐time/seasonal city employees, with city departments in accordance with union contracts, city ordinances, as well as state and federal regulations. The Human Resources Director negotiates health, dental, and life insurance benefits and processes health and dental changes for the active and retired schools and city employees (approximately 600 eligible employees; 500 eligible retirees/spouses).

Candidates must possess a bachelor degree in human resources management, public or business administration, psychology or a related educational field, Master’s degree preferred; three to five years of increasingly responsible personnel experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Salary range: $95,000 to $115,000 per year
