A Heavy Equipment Operator position is available in the Bedford Public Works Grounds Division for a mature person to perform various public works jobs and to operate equipment of substantial complexity. Work requires a frequent and high level of physical effort under various weather conditions. Proven ability to operate Grounds maintenance equipment is required. Use of backhoes, loaders, and heavy plowing equipment is desired.

Qualifications include a high school diploma, a valid Massachusetts Class B Commercial Driving License, a 2A/1C Hydraulic Hoisting License, and a proven good driving record as evidenced by a Registry of Motor Vehicles report. The position includes a five day, 40 hour work week in addition to mandated overtime during emergencies or special work details such as tree-related issues, cemetery details, snowstorms, and event staffing.
