The city of Watertown seeks a professional Health Officer who enjoys working with and protecting the public to serve as an inspector and educator enforcing public health laws and regulations, educating licensees and the general public, and other related work. Works under the direct supervision of the Chief Environmental Health Officer and in accordance with statutes and professional standards; responsible for the enforcement of State Sanitary Codes and local regulations; performs sanitary inspections of food establishments, pools, housing, general nuisance, tanning establishments, hazardous materials facilities and other establishments to ensure compliance with state and local standards and regulations; follows up on complaints involving vermin and other nuisance conditions; prepares letters, enforcement documents and educational materials. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in public health, environmental health, biology, chemistry or a related field; one year of related experience in public health or environmental health; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Registration as a Sanitarian preferred. Computer skills and valid Massachusetts motor vehicle license with good driving history.
