The Essex Police Department, an accredited, non-civil service police department, seeks a certified full-time Police Officer. This position falls under the Essex Police Association/MassCOP Local 270 CBA.


  • Applicant must be at least 21 years of age, a U.S. citizen and must possess a valid Massachusetts driver’s licenses, a Class A license to carry firearms under the qualifying laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, as well as a high school diploma or GED.
  • MPTC full-time Basic Recruit Academy training preferred. MPTC Bridge Academy training graduates, having met the requirements to apply for an MPTC Basic (Full-Time Academy) Training Exemption by the MPTC, and subsequently having the exemption granted may be considered.
  • Must be certified in good standing, must pass a host of tests, and an extensive background check.

Salary and Benefits:

Step 1 base salary as of July 1, 2023 is $66,081.19. Benefits include paid vacation, 13 paid holidays, two personal days, education incentive, night shift differential, annual sick leave, 75% town paid health insurance, and stipend(s).
