Foreman Water Department
FY24 $31.39 to $40.81 per hour – 10 steps; 40 hours/week; M-F 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. (additional hours as needed).

Requirements: Massachusetts Class B operator’s license is required. Massachusetts drinking water licenses Grade II distribution and Grade II treatment is required. Backflow survey and inspectors licenses; hoisting license are required.

Essential Functions: Assists the Superintendent in the planning, organization, scheduling and completion of water distribution system repairs, maintenance and improvements; schedules the daily assignments of department employees.

Supervises and participates in all department activities; supervises and/or conducts water system maintenance projects, including the repair of old water mains; supervises and/or performs the installation of water services; installs and repairs the service valves, turn valves on or off by request; turns off valves for non-payment of bills.

Inspects service installations performed by outside contractors; ensures compliance with industry and town standards.

Installs and repairs fire hydrants, water pipes, including asbestos pipe and gate valves.

Oversees and administers a leak detection and directional hydrant flushing program.

Investigates complaints by water users; ensures that problems are corrected and resolved.

Determines that work is performed correctly and efficiently and that proper safety precautions are followed for the protection of the work crew and the public.

Maintains various records, reports and daily logs of projects; maintains inventory and orders supplies and safety equipment for employees.

Supervises, instructs and trains personnel in operations and maintaining safety.

Supervises and administers DEP-mandated cross connection program, including survey and testing.

Supervises the maintenance of water department buildings and grounds, comprised of pump stations, treatment and storage facilities, including painting, lawn maintenance, snow removal, inventory control and routine inspection.

May be required to participate in the collection of water samples.

Coordinates the installation of meter interface units in new residences as well as the repair/replacement of existing units.

Acts in the absence of the Water Superintendent.
