Job Description
The town of Reading Fire department is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Firefighter/Paramedic position.
Under the direction of the Fire Chief and/or designated supervisory personnel, the Firefighter responds to fires, medical emergencies, rescues, hazardous materials incidents, and other emergencies. Performs fire suppression, emergency medical services, rescue operations, fire prevention, equipment maintenance, training, and related duties to protect life and property.
Work Hours
This is a full-time position working a rotating shift schedule consistent with the operational needs of the Fire Department. The position requires working nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as necessary.
Firefighters may be required to work overtime, respond to emergency situations outside of regularly scheduled hours.
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Massachusetts driver’s license.
• Massachusetts Paramedic certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification (preferred)
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification(preferred)
• Successful completion of a recognized Firefighter training program and/or possession of Massachusetts Firefighter I/II certification, (preferred)
Starting Salary: $80,847.94
This amount includes base pay, EMT stipend, night shift differential and holiday pay. Additional compensation is available for qualifying education and certifications per the collective bargaining agreement.
