The Walpole Fire Department (WFD) is currently accepting applications for the position of Firefighter-Paramedic to add to our department. WFD serves a growing community of over 26,000 residents, operating out of two stations with a minimum shift staffing of nine personnel. The department provides comprehensive emergency services, including fire suppression, fire prevention, and advanced life support (ALS) ambulance transport.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Performs emergency medical aid activities including administering ALS/BLS first aid and providing other assistance as required.
- Performs firefighting activities including driving fire apparatus, operating pumps and related equipment, laying hose and performing fire suppression, containment, extinguishment tasks and salvage operations.
- Perform all other essential functions of a firefighter as described in NFPA 1001: Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications, and functions described in the Massachusetts Statewide OEMS Protocol or required by our Medical Director.
- Participates in fire drills, attends classes in firefighting, emergency medical, hazardous materials and related subjects, inspection of buildings, hydrants and other structures in fire prevention programs.
- Performs general maintenance of fire equipment, apparatus and facilities.
- Work under the direction of fire officers and senior firefighters.
Requirements:
- Certified Paramedics are preferred, EMTs currently enrolled in a Paramedic class will also be considered
- Massachusetts State certified Emergency Medical Technician/Paramedic (EMT/P) with PALS Certification is a condition of employment and shall be maintained as such
- Pro Board Firefighter I/II certification from a full-time Fire Academy is desired
- Must be 18 years or older at the time of employment
- Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid state driver’s license without record of suspension or revocation in any state
- Must be able to pass all pre-employment tests, including but not limited to physical abilities, pre-employment physical and psychological screenings and background check.
