Blackstone, MA (9,326) seeks highly qualified candidates for the position of Fire Chief/Emergency Manager.  Department covers a response area of 11.2 square miles, operates from three stations and provides fire/rescue and transport EMS services to the community.  The Department is an ISO Class 4/4X organization that employs 13 career firefighters and 13 on call personnel. Fire Personnel work 24-hour shifts using a 1-2-1-4 schedule. The Department responded to 1,056 emergency calls in 2020. The annual operating budget is 1.2 million dollars.

The Chief is appointed by and reports to the Town Administrator and is a member of the town’s Leadership team. Minimum qualifications include: associate’s degree with major coursework in fire science or fire administration, homeland security, emergency management or a related field; bachelor’s preferred; seven years’ experience as a member in a comparable fire department and five-plus years of experience as a command officer (Captain or above) in a comparable or larger organization.  A combination of education and experience will be considered.

Candidates must possess or can obtain Massachusetts or National EMT – Basic (paramedic preferred), Pro Board Firefighter I/II, Fire Officer I/II, Fire Instructor I/II certification, hazardous materials operations level certification and be ICS/NIMS Training through level 300.

Candidates must have demonstrated experience and skill within the following critical areas; budgeting, grant writing, crafting collaborative interagency relationships, labor management relations, pacing change, fireground management, incident command and emergency management.  Consideration will be given to Chief Fire Officers credentialed in Massachusetts and Graduates of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program (EFOP) or the Massachusetts Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Training program.

Salary range to $104,882 DOQ. Residency within 20 miles of the town of Blackstone is required.  Additional information:
