The town of Bedford is located 15 miles northwest of Boston, with approximately 14,383 residents. The Bedford Fire Department is seeking an accomplished leader/manager to direct 36 personnel, including six Captains, (two administrative, four shift commander Captains), four Lieutenants, 24 firefighters and two administrative staff. Manage a budget of $5 million, including the ambulance enterprise fund. The department provides fire suppression, rescue and EMS (ALS) services. The Chief reports to the Town Manager and is a member of the town’s management team. Demonstrated leadership ability with strong interpersonal and communication skills, experience in collective bargaining processes, public safety planning and community engagement. Comprehensive knowledge of MA HRD/Civil Service processes. Ten years of fire/rescue experience, experience managing a fire based advanced life support ambulance service is preferred. Five years of experience as a Chief Officer (or Department equivalent) or equivalent combination of education or experience (preferred qualification of EMT-P certification). Preferred bachelor’s degree and completion of NFA Executive Fire Officer program or similar executive management program required.
Starting salary +/-$195,000/yr. DOQ. The town of Bedford offers a comprehensive benefits package.
