Town of Swampscott – Finance Director
The town of Swampscott is seeking an experienced, strategic, and collaborative Finance Director to join our senior management team. Reporting to the Town Administrator, this position oversees all town-side financial operations, including budgeting, accounting, purchasing, cash management, debt service, and financial reporting. The Finance Director plays a key leadership role in preparing the annual operating and capital budgets, developing long-term financial forecasts, and ensuring compliance with all local and state financial regulations.
The Finance Director provides guidance to the Town Administrator, Finance Committee, and Select Board; supervises the Assistant Town Accountant; and partners closely with department heads across Police, Fire, Library, Senior Center, and Town Hall. The role also coordinates with the Public Schools’ Finance Director on town-wide financial planning.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required; master’s preferred. At least seven years of progressively responsible municipal/governmental finance experience, including three in a supervisory capacity. Strong knowledge of municipal finance laws and best practices required; CMA certification preferred.
Compensation: Full-time, exempt; salary range $145,000–$160,000 with comprehensive benefits.
