The city of Fitchburg is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Executive Director of the Council on Aging. Under the direction and supervision of the Mayor of Fitchburg and the Council on Aging, the Executive Director is responsible to maintain, initiate and establish programs and services, consistent with the needs of the elderly in conjunction with the goals and objectives of the Council on Aging and to coordinate with local agencies and organizations to provide services through the Center to serve as a community resource for elder services. Additional responsibilities include the day to day operation and management of the Fitchburg Senior Center, including the supervision of staff, building maintenance, hall rentals and collaboration with other community organizations.

The ideal candidate for this position will possess a bachelor’s degree in gerontology, social work, public administration, human relations/services or related field, with a minimum of five years professional experience in programs dealing with the needs of senior citizens, with a minimum of three years’ progressive management/supervisory experience or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Demonstrated grant writing experience is preferred, with the ability to prepare and submit proposals for state, federal and nonprofit agency grant programs.
