The Department of Community Development and Planning seeks an individual to work alongside the Senior Environmental Planner to provide planning analysis of environmental and climate issues in Watertown as well as to serve as the city’s Conservation Agent. The Planner/Agent will assist with Conservation Commission in its administration and enforcement of the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act, the Watertown Wetlands Protection Ordinance, and management of property under Conservation Commission management or control and will assist with the coordination of a range of sustainability and environmental efforts in the city.  Outside of special projects or tasks, duties of the position will be split between Conservation Commission-related tasks and environmental planning activities.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in urban planning, environmental, or a related field or a bachelor’s degree with two years of planning and/or environmental or conservation program experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong working knowledge of best practices in environmental planning. Knowledge of planning principles and practices. Knowledge of Massachusetts and municipal wetlands protection laws and regulations. Ability to work independently and in a team, to keep accurate and detailed notes and records, to read, review, and interpret plans. Must be detail-oriented with excellent organization skills, written and oral communication skills, problem-solving skills, and group facilitation skills.

SALARY RANGE: Expected hiring range is $57,870 – $63,236 DQE annually, plus excellent benefits package.
