Economic Development Coordinator/Energy Manager

The town of Auburn is seeking dynamic candidates for the position of Economic Development Coordinator/Energy Manager.  Responsible for implementing the Economic Development Strategic Plan, coordination of development initiatives and strategies, business recruitment, commercial and industrial development, and revitalization efforts. Manages economic and housing development projects, initiatives and programs and related grant administration.  Works closely with the Town Planner on zoning and other initiatives related to development. Serves as liaison to the Economic Development Committee and other development related boards, committees or commissions.  Works closely with business and community organizations, Auburn Chamber of Commerce, town departments, elected and appointed officials, as well as state and federal agencies.

Energy manager responsibilities within the position include administration of the town’s energy initiatives and grants including Green Community grant implementation and detailed reporting, Net Metering Credit agreements and management, municipal aggregation program, NGrid energy reduction initiatives, and community outreach to promote green energy and renewables.  Works on initiatives such as solar, wind, LED conversion and other energy projects and plans that will reduce the town’s energy costs and consumption.  Serves as the liaison to the town’s Energy Committee.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in planning, economics, business administration, public policy or related field and a minimum of two years of experience in municipal administration, planning, project management or economic development. A master’s degree is strongly preferred; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Finance background helpful to Energy Manager responsibilities.  Excellent verbal and written communications and interpersonal skills and strong data management skills required.

Ideal candidate will have knowledge of municipal development processes, Massachusetts General Laws, experience interacting with government entities and officials.  Must be able to develop positive relationships with staff, businesses, citizens, local organizations and regional agencies.

Starting Salary $55,000.00 – $65,000.00 (DOQ) plus full benefits package.
