The town of Abington is seeking a full-time Mechanic to join the department of Public Works (DPW). This AFSCME union position works under the general supervision of the DPW Director and Vehicle Maintenance Foreman and is responsible for the maintenance and repair of town-owned vehicles and equipment.
Duties include general automotive and truck repair, limited body work, welding and metal fabrication, hydraulic repairs, diagnostics, and maintenance of pumps, generators, lawn equipment, and small engines. The position supports DPW operations as well as police and fire apparatus maintenance. Work is performed in a standard vehicle maintenance garage and in various indoor and outdoor environments, with seasonal and emergency-related fluctuations. Participation in an on-call rotation and availability during snow, ice, and other emergency or severe weather events is required.
The position is 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $31.20–$35.40, depending on experience and licenses. Five or more years of mechanical experience is preferred. A CDL and Hoisting License are preferred or must be obtained within one year.
The position is open until filled and reviewed on a rolling basis.
