POSITION OVERVIEW

Wachusett Regional School District is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to serve as the District-Wide School Safety Coordinator. This part-time role is pivotal in leading and enhancing the district’s safety initiatives, and ensuring a secure environment for all students, staff, and visitors across our schools.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Safety Program Leadership: Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive safety protocols, including ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) training, threat assessment procedures, emergency response drills, and emergency response plans.
  • Threat Assessment Teams: Establish and lead multidisciplinary threat assessment teams in alignment with guidelines from the U.S. Secret Service.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Coordinate regular safety drills and exercises across all school buildings, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with school administrators, local law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency management agencies to maintain and improve safety measures.
  • Training and Development: Provide training sessions for staff, students, and, when appropriate, parents on safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Safety Audits: Conduct regular assessments of school facilities to identify potential safety hazards and recommend corrective actions.
  • Policy Development: Assist in the development and revision of district-wide safety policies and procedures.
    Additional responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Extensive experience (minimum of 10 years) in law enforcement, emergency management, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated leadership in safety planning and emergency response coordination.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state safety regulations applicable to educational institutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Preferred:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Safety, Emergency Management, or a related field.
  • Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) or Associate Emergency Manager (AEM)  HSEEP (Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program) or MEPP (Master Exercise Practitioner Program) certification
  • Experience working within a school environment or with youth programs.
  • Certifications in ALICE training, FEMA Incident Command System (ICS), or related safety programs.
  • Familiarity with the core components of school safety as outlined by the U.S. Secret Service and Department of Homeland Security.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires on-site presence approximately one day per week, with flexibility for occasional evening events or emergencies.
Ability to travel between school sites within the district as needed.

SALARY

$60 per hour for approximately 8 hours per week (up to $25,000 per year) with a flexible schedule
