Come join our dynamic team! The city of Newton is seeking qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Director of Transportation (Planning). The purpose of this  position within the Department of Planning and Development is to lead the department’s mission to provide a safe, smart, accessible, livable, and sustainable transportation system. The next Director of Transportation Planning will build on recent successes, introducing forward-thinking multimodal bicycle, pedestrian, transit and rideshare projects to ensure Newton becomes safe and welcoming for all modes of travel. The Director of Transportation Planning works across city departments to oversee various transportation activities with an eye towards reducing SOV trips, increasing bike, pedestrian, and transit trips, encouraging the use of electric vehicles, and reducing crashes. Activities include bicycle and pedestrian planning, sustainable mobility, transit and rideshare, emerging technologies implementation, transportation demand management, capital project planning, and feasibility studies, grant writing and related duties. The Director is responsible for ensuring implementation of the city’s transportation vision as well as future strategic planning efforts. The Director of Transportation Planning reports to the Planning Director and Deputy Director of Planning. This is full-time, exempt, hiring salary range: $82,388-$88,705 annually plus yearly step increases, excellent benefits, and the opportunity to be a part of our team of dedicated public servants.
