The Director of Tourism is responsible for overseeing the Tourism department and leading the development and execution of strategies that market and promote Provincetown as a premier tourism destination. This work directly supports and stimulates the economic growth of the town, where tourism serves as its largest economic driver. The Director supervises the Tourism Assistant, manages relationships with the town’s contracted Marketing and Digital Media Agency, and coordinates with additional vendors. The position also works closely with the Visitor Services Board, which develops an annual Five-Year Plan and authorizes the use of the town’s Tourism Fund. The Director provides recommendations to the Board, oversees the town’s Tourism Grant Program, and manages monthly departmental expenditures. Collaboration is essential, as the Director partners with the Town Manager, Assistant Town Manager, Town Boards, and business organizations such as Provincetown Chamber of Commerce and Provincetown Business Guild. This is a full-time, salaried, confidential position (40 hours per week, Monday through Friday) with additional time required, including evenings, weekends, and possible travel. Requirements include a bachelor’s degree or higher in tourism, consumer marketing, or public relations, plus seven to 10 years of relevant experience. This is a Grade 12, nonunion position with a starting salary of $93,311, depending on qualifications.
