Director of Senior Services / Council on Aging

Town of Manchester-by-the-Sea • Full-Time (Exempt) • Salary Range: $90,000 – $95,000 DOQ

The town of Manchester-by-the-Sea is seeking a warm, community-oriented professional to serve as its Director of Senior Services / Council on Aging. This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about working with older adults and enjoys building meaningful connections within a supportive community.

Reporting to the Town Administrator, the Director leads the operations of the Senior Center and Council on Aging (COA), managing programs, transportation, and outreach services that enhance the lives of Manchester’s senior residents. The Director works collaboratively with the Health and Human Services Team Leader to align wellness and support programs across the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee all COA programs and services, including Meals on Wheels, transportation, and wellness initiatives.
  • Lead and support a small, dedicated team of staff and volunteers who serve the senior community.
  • Oversee Senior Center operations, budgets, and facility maintenance.
  • Collaborate with the Health and Human Services Team Leader on initiatives that promote senior well-being and community health.
  • Build and maintain relationships with seniors, families, and community partners to foster engagement and support.
  • Research and manage grants and other funding sources.
  • Maintain confidentiality of personnel, client, and financial information.
  • Promote the COA through community outreach, newsletters, and events.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, gerontology, human services, or a related field (master’s preferred).
  • Four to five years of progressively responsible experience in senior services, human services, or community programming, including supervisory duties.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must obtain the following within one year of hire: MA COA Director Certification, Serve Safe Manager’s License, CPR/AED Certification, and SHINE Program Certification.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with a genuine desire to work closely with the aging population.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $90,000 – $95,000 DOQ (depending on qualifications)
