The town of Natick, is seeking candidates for the role of Director of Recreation & Parks. The successful candidate will serve as a member of the leadership team within the Community Services department. The individual will value community building and possess the ability to leverage efficiency through partnerships and teamwork; strive for professionalism and accountability to create a culture of respect, dignity, and trust; promote honesty, integrity, and commitment in daily interactions with management, residents, vendors, and elected and appointed officials; and promote creative ideas to better serve the public.

The Director of Recreation & Parks is responsible for partnering with all divisions under the Community Services Department with a primary focus on providing direction and leadership to the division of Recreation and Parks. The Recreation Division oversees hundreds of programs, services and community events over the course of the year. The Recreation & Parks division is the stewards of the park system and coordinates space usage of facilities and parks throughout town. The Director’s office will be in the Cole Recreation Center. Program space includes the Cole Center, the Community Senior Center, Memorial Beach, local schools and town parks. The Director of Recreation & Parks will work with the Community Services Director and leadership team to redefine the way services are provided to the incredible town we call Natick.

The Director of Recreation and Parks must fulfill the following qualification or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Master’s degree in public administration or related field requested,
  • Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of five years of experience in municipal recreation or a related field with increasing responsibility, related experience with recreation agencies, recreation facilities, park management and supervisory experience with recreation or related programs can be substituted.
  • Prefer a candidate that is a current MRPA (Massachusetts Recreation and Parks Association) and/or NRPA (National Recreation & Parks Association) member
  • Valid driver’s License.
