The town of Rockport seeks a dynamic individual to join their team as the Director of Public Works. This senior management position is appointed by the Board of Public Works Commissioners; policy direction and oversight is received from the Commissioners and daily oversight and direction is through the Town Administrator. The position is responsible for the operations of the department of public works which includes approx. 50 employees in the following divisions: water treatment, wastewater treatment, water and sewer distribution/collection, public properties (beaches, parks, cemeteries), highway/snow and ice, fleet services, building maintenance, business office, solid waste and recycling, engineering and capital projects. The successful candidate will have strong leadership and project management skills and abilities.

The next Director will be responsible for crafting the strategic direction of the department in conjunction with the Board of Public Works Commissioners and stakeholders, including guiding long-range planning for the town’s water and sewer and public facilities infrastructure. The town opened a new public works facility in September 2025. The position requires at least eight years of supervisory experience in construction, engineering, or municipal/state public works operations. Bachelor’s degree or higher in civil engineering or in a related field is a plus. Experience in public procurement strongly desired or ability to achieve MCPPO certification within one year of hire. The successful candidate must have the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with a wide variety of stakeholders including the public and town employees and Board/Committee members and possess more than ordinary courtesy and tact.
