The own of York, a coastal community comprised of the villages of Cape Neddick, York Harbor, York Village and York Beach, is accepting applications for the position of Director of Parks and Recreation.

The own of York is seeking a highly experienced, motivated, and self-driven Director of Parks and Recreation with a demonstrated history of successful parks and beaches management and municipal recreation. Desirable candidates will have the ability to provide effective leadership within the organization and develop and maintain positive working relationships with town employees, board and committee members, and the public. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: coordinating the work of program staff, handling program publicity and public relations, operating and enterprise budgeting, development of capital improvements and maintenance and improvements of public buildings, grounds and beaches.

The position is a full-time, exempt, non-bargaining, position and will require occasional attendance at night meetings as well as periodic weekend work. Starting salary range is $77,000 – $112,000 dependent upon experience and qualifications. The town of York follows a salary step schedule which provides an estimated 5 percent increase plus COLA every year for the first three years of employment and then every third year subsequent to that. The town also offers a benefit package including health insurance, life insurance, and two retirement plan options, a generous paid time off policy, and 13 paid holidays.

Bachelor’s degree with specialization in parks and recreation leadership and management is preferred. Progressive experience in parks and recreation leadership in a supervisor capacity; or an equivalent combination of experience and training. Must possess a valid Class C State of Maine motor vehicle operator’s license.
