Job Description

The city of Peabody is seeking a full-time Director of Finance and Administration to serve as the city’s senior financial executive and chief financial advisor to the Mayor. Responsibilities include budget development and oversight, financial reporting and forecasting, debt and investment management, internal controls, long-term financial planning, and oversight of key municipal financial and administrative functions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field required; master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible Massachusetts municipal or governmental finance experience, including at least five years in a senior leadership or supervisory capacity.
  • Certified Governmental Accountant designation or substantial experience as a Massachusetts City Auditor, Town Accountant, or comparable senior municipal finance professional.
  • Strong knowledge of Massachusetts municipal finance, budgeting, accounting, auditing, UMAS, GAAP, GASB standards, and Department of Revenue requirements.

Compensation: $140,000–$150,000 anticipated hiring range, with a full salary range up to $153,712, depending on qualifications and experience. An additional $4,200 annual stipend is provided for service as an ex-officio member of the Retirement Board. This is a full-time, non-union position with excellent municipal benefits.
