The town of Berlin is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable professional to serve as its Director of Assessing and lead the town’s Assessing Department.
Working under the general direction of the Board of Assessors, the Director is responsible for the administration of the town’s assessing functions, including property valuation, annual and certification-year revaluations, property inspections, market analysis, maintenance of assessment records, and compliance with Massachusetts Department of Revenue requirements.
The Director provides professional and technical support to the Board of Assessors, oversees departmental operations and staff, assists taxpayers and the public, and works collaboratively with other town departments and state officials.
Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience and at least five years of responsible experience in commercial and residential assessing or appraising, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Massachusetts Accredited Assessor (MAA) designation is required or must be obtained within three years of hire.
