The town of Falmouth seeks an experienced professional to serve as our next Director of Assessing. The successful candidate is a detail-oriented, analytical, and objective Assessor. The ideal has excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills, and an interest in developing the Assessing team and fostering collaboration with other town divisions and departments. This is a full-time, exempt position that generally works Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., on-site at the Town Hall and in the field. The town may consider schedule flexibility and/or limited remote work for the right candidate. The Director of Assessing is periodically required to work after hours to attend Town Meeting, Finance Committee, or other meetings or during periods of high volume.

Under the administrative direction of the Finance Director, the Director of Assessing directs and manages the operations and personnel of the Finance Department’s busy Assessing Division, which handles approximately 24,500 real parcels, 6,000 personal, 4,000 boat excise, and 40,000 auto excise pieces and consists of five other full-time employees: one Assistant Assessor, two Data Collector/Property Listers, and two Administrative Clerks.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in business or finance and a minimum of five years of progressively responsible municipal appraisal experience using Computer Assisted Mass Appraisal (CAMA), with a minimum of three years of supervisory experience; or equivalent.

Applicants must have the Massachusetts Accredited Assessor (MAA) certification and a valid Massachusetts driver’s license.

Expected Starting Salary Range: The expected starting salary range for this recruitment is Step 1 ($109,948.80/year) to Step 7 ($134,368.00/year), commensurate with qualifications and experience, with room to annually advance along the pay scale to the maximum Step 10 ($148,553.80/year).
