Description of employer: The town of Ashburnham is a rural community of approximately 6,300 residents located in northeastern Worcester County. The town is governed by a three person Select Board and a Town Administrator. Home to Cushing Academy, a historic village center, and a vibrant arts community; Ashburnham also is noted for its multiple lake communities, as well as its abundance of open space and hiking trails.

Work schedule: Full-time (40 hours/week with benefits).

General job description: The Conservation Agent will provide professional management and support to the Conservation Commission, coordinate Commission activities, and perform technical reviews and evaluations of applications/submissions to the Commission involving wetland resource delineations, impact analyses, and mitigation planning/design. The Conservation Agent also will be required to perform site visits and attend regular meetings of the Commission on an as needed basis.

Qualifications: The Conservation Agent should understand land use principles, have a working knowledge of the Mass. Wetlands Protection Act/regulations and their administration, implementation, and enforcement. A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, or a related field is preferred. However, applicants with a combination of comparable academic and two or more years’ experience in wetland/land use protection or environmental science/management will be strongly considered.
