Job Description

The town of Andover seeks a skilled storyteller and communications professional to create clear, engaging content that helps residents understand what’s happening across town government and why it matters. Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, this role turns municipal topics — programs, services, projects, and public decisions — into accessible stories, newsletters, social media posts, and multimedia content across platforms including Andover46 and the town website.

The ideal candidate can spot a compelling story, ask the right questions, and translate technical or routine information into content residents actually want to read. Responsibilities include writing and editing stories, developing FAQs and explainers, publishing timely public notices, and collaborating on photography, graphics, and video.

We’re looking for a strong writer with a bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience), along with professional experience producing content for journalism, communications, digital media, or public-sector audiences. Candidates should bring excellent writing and editing skills, sound editorial judgment, and the ability to manage multiple projects independently; experience in municipal government or public-sector communications, along with photography, design, or video skills, is a plus.

$65,000.00 – $80,000.00 Annual Salary.

The town of Andover is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
