The Commissioner of Health and Human Services (HHS) provides high-level leadership, managing vast public health departments, developing health policy, overseeing budgets, ensuring quality care, responding to health-related crises, and collaborating with government, agencies, and the public to improve population health and well-being across mental, environmental, and physical health domains. Also, responsible to enforce regulations, implement strategic plans, and advocate for legislation to protect and promote community health.
With the advice of the city’s advisory council of health, performs duties and directs services and programs relative to the protection of public health, the control of disease, the promotion of sanitary living conditions, and the protection of the environment from damage and pollution.
