The successful candidate effectively manages in-house staff and outside consultants, maintains positive public relations and communicates with tact and diplomacy with constituents, elected officials, businesses and state and federal agencies. The right candidate is not afraid to wear many hats, likes the challenge of working outside of his/her skillset and handles changing demands with confidence and professionalism.

The City Engineer will assist the Department in managing a diverse scope of work in a team oriented environment. Working under the Director, the City Engineer leads the Engineering Division including scheduling and supervising the development, design and construction of roadway and utility infrastructure projects; developing grants and managing personnel, contracts and vendors. The City Engineer serves as the city’s liaison to boards and commissions; s/he plans and implements short and long range plans. The qualified candidate has a MA PE Registration and bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field with eight years’ of progressively responsible experience and minimum of three years of municipal experience or experience working with the municipal sector; thorough knowledge of civil engineering principals, materials, methods, practices and equipment, knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, AutoCAD and GIS Systems. Salary is commensurate with experience.
