Lewiston Maine is seeking an experienced, professional leader for its next City Administrator. It is Maine’s second largest city with a population of 38,835 and is located in Androscoggin County on the banks of the Androscoggin River. Lewiston is known for its rich history and cultural diversity. Lewiston operates under its Municipal Charter with a Mayor and seven Councilors. The Mayor is elected by city wide vote and Councilors are elected by voters within their wards. The Mayor and Councilors are elected for alternating two year terms with the Mayor and three Councilors elected one year and four Councilors the second year. Lewiston has 351 full-time employees and an annual budget of $64.7 million, excluding the school budget which is the responsibility of an elected School Board.

  • A demonstrated and dynamic leader who is forward-thinking, fair-minded, transparent, thinks outside the box, plans for the long term and can help lead the community;
  • An effective and experienced Administrator from an environment of similar complexity with proven organizational and professional skills;
  • An individual who has strong skills in finance and capital planning, human resources, employee relations and unions, planning and community development;
  • The ability to work positively and effectively with staff and promote positive morale and team building in the organization;
  • Able to listen, engage, understand and sustain relationships with all stakeholders in the community, both public and private;
  • Articulates clearly achievable goals to staff, provides tools and resources to achieve the goals and expects accountability;
  • Experience working in a diverse environment and the ability to implement diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
  • A person of unquestionable ethics and integrity, committed to the standards for municipal management professionals specified by the International City Management Association (ICMA) and Maine Town and City Management Association (MTCMA);
  • Strong in written, verbal and public presentation skills;
  • Willing to engage and become part of the fabric of the community. Residency in Lewiston is preferred but not mandatory.

The city is seeking candidates with a minimum of seven years of demonstrated municipal executive management experience or similar related private business experience.

Applicants will possess a bachelor’s degree in public or business administration or a closely related field with a master’s preferred. Salary range is $165,000 to $195,000 and will be determined based on experience and qualifications.
